At age 16, in 2003, Héritier Lumumba began to hone his leadership skills with the Community Development Foundation, in Perth Western Australia, where he worked as a mentor to Indigenous primary school students of West Northam Primary school.
In 2005, his first year of professional football, Lumumba became the Australian Football League’s first Multicultural ambassador. Lumumba spent countless hours contributing to the grassroots game development, to create cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity and participation in the AFL.
In 2oo8, he became the Burnet Institute’s youth ambassador and visited communities throughout Mozambique, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, that utilises capacity development to prevent and treat infectious disease.
In 2012, Prime Minister Julia Gillard selected Héritier as a ‘People of Australia Ambassador’, to provide effective ideas to the government and the Australian Multicultural Council, that serve to promote inclusion and heighten diversity in Australian communities.
